COM_SCATALOG_FIELD_DESCRIPTION

Mysteriously blue and so spicy… Everyone has heard about Curacao liquor. Just a few know that it was invented on the island of the same name in the Caribbean.

Here you can see the production of this drink... The small factory is located in Cobrasobo Manor as bright as Curacao liquor. The factory moved here only in 1947. The entire production began at the end of the XIX century.

It is very exciting to see the factory, like a side-scene of a theater.  Just enter and feel the pleasant smell of orange. The guide tells you the history of liquor and its creation. As it happens, a failed idea turns to be a brilliant one. The island belonged to the Spaniards. They decided to plant sweet and juicy Valencia oranges, the favorites in hot Spain, on Curacao. The soil is good, the sun is shining - the conditions are perfect. The colonizers thought so but did it wrong.

The land and climate of Curacao were not so hospitable to overseas fruit. An orange mutated and turned to a terribly bitter from a sweet one. It was considered inedible. All the gardens were closed. But once, somebody paid attention to the zest of an orange. Dried in the sun, it has an incredible aroma and emits a natural oil. A few years later the Senior family began producing the drink based on their secret technology. First, liquor was selling in a pharmacy of the Senior family. The “descendants” of the Spanish orange, “Golden Curacao Oranges” were in a drink’s base.

The drink became popular so fast. It won the hearts of the whole world. On a factory, nobody tells you the secrets of production, but they can show you other things. Here you can try the ready drink and buy a couple of bottles for a home collection.

COM_SCATALOG_FIELD_INTERESTING_FACTS

In fact, Curacao liquor is clear. Orange gives taste and aroma, but not a color. For a long time, the Senior family was producing a liquor without any color. It was added later, when the drink was called “Crème de Ciel”.

The “indigo” dye appeared only in the 60s of the XX century. It added some mystery to the liquor. The drink looked like an alchemical potion. But the producers were doing it with purpose. It was a marketing ploy, the liquor was selling faster. And the bartenders could make the multi-layered cocktails.

The producers have used other colors. The most popular are blue, red and green.
