Wake Island (USA)

Wake Island is a tiny atoll in the Pacific Northwest that is home to some of the most beautiful and rare corals in the world. The area of the island also includes the territory of two small atolls – Peale and Wilkes – and is a total of 6.5 square kilometres. Peale and Wilkes are separated from Wake by narrow straits but connected by a flat reef that stretches like a narrow border around all three atolls.

There are no insects on the atolls that could pose a threat to human health. Fortunately, there are no termites, mosquitoes, or blood-sucking flies on Wake, but there are small cockroaches, moths, bees, and butterflies.
