The Casa de La Estrella Museum, the "Star House", is one of the oldest buildings in the Venezuelan Valencia. The building has a great historical value for the city and the country because of the events it was connected with. Besides, the house has constantly performed important functions for the city since its construction.

Today, Casa de La Estrella functions as a museum and library, displaying important objects from different periods of history; exhibitions and various cultural events are held here from time to time.

The history of the building began in 1710: the Spaniards built it for the hospital of San Antonio de Padua. Even today, the structure of the building shows its correspondence to the hospitals of the colonial era. The name "Casa de La Estrella" comes from a place called La Estrella Roja ("red star"), located on the opposite side of the street.

According to documentary descriptions of the late XVIII-early XIX centuries, the hospital had a chapel accessible both from the street and from the Main Hall (or the Hall of the Sick). Patients could listen to the masses without getting out of bed.

The west side of the hospital had wards, and the east wing had a corridor that connected to the cemetery to the south of the building.

From the mid-XIX to the end of the XX century, the former hospital changed its functional purpose more than once.

Here are just a few important milestones in the life of Casa de La Estrella. In 1833, the President of the Republic of Venezuela, General José Antonio Paes, decided to establish the National College of Valencia in this place, where the Congress of the Republic had been located. Since 1852, the National College has acquired the status of a higher school with various faculties (political science, medicine, mathematics, theology, and philosophy). In the 1970s, the Carabobo Cancer Hospital used this building as a center for its services. In the 1980s, the State Historic Center began operating here, and the house was declared a National Historic Landmark. In 1999, Casa de La Estrella became a historical museum.
