Mochima National Park (Parque Nacional Mochima) is located in the coastal areas of northern Venezuela, between the cities of Puerto La Cruz and Cumana. The park also includes a large peninsula and several islands, with a total area of about 100 thousand hectares.
The park derives its name from a cozy village on the resort coastline, in the central zone of the northern coast. The village is the tourist center of the region. It offers a variety of tourist services: boat rental, diving, and snorkeling equipment, tour services, and boat trips along the coastal waters of the Caribbean Sea.
The park has a hilly relief, and its green hills covered with mangrove thickets smoothly descend to the golden sandy beaches. Then there is only the blue of the sea and the islands where you can immerse yourself into the study of the diversity of flora and fauna. Some of the islands have preserved almost pristine nature.
The park also performs environmental functions. Mochima National Park is home to many animals, including species with small populations that are on the verge of extinction. For example, some places on the beach line are home to rare species of sea turtles. From May to July, some of the beaches are closed for visits: a young generation of turtles is born. Also, you can see a lot of reptiles, rabbits, monkeys, deer, various types of birds.
And the most attractive and alluring beaches of Mochima National Park are island ones. To get there, you can rent a boat with transportation services; such small trips can also be made by a small company - boats for 6-8 people are often offered. The most picturesque beach in the park is Colorado: it has soft sand of an unusual color with a reddish tint.
There is a highway along the coast in the continental part of the park: a trip along it turns into a beautiful journey with amazing views. The most spectacular places are equipped with observation decks.
