The boulevard of Sabana Grande is a dynamiс street in the center of Caracas, a popular sector for recreation, shopping, communication, and business meetings.

In 1743, this sector was called Calle Real de Sabana Grande. It connected the central part of Caracas with the estates located to the east: people came to the center of the settlement on horseback, and food was delivered along the street on mules. By 1852, the authorities of Caracas had "increased" the importance of the area based on the significant number of residents and buildings. In 1881, a tram started functioning there: the route of the third city line of Caracas, known as El Central, connected the districts of Campinha and Sabana Grande. Automobile public transport appeared there by 1912.

Besides, at the end of the XIX century, the area had a racetrack run by the jockey club of Caracas. Among its administrators was Arturo Michelena, one of the first Venezuelan artists to achieve success abroad.

In the mid-twentieth century, construction began on Abraham Lincoln Avenue, which would eventually connect the Florida sector and Libertador Avenue with the Bello Monte sector from north to south. Starting in 1960,  this avenue began to acquire the status of a commercial center of the capital, filled with shops, restaurants, and open-air cafes. This place also became a center of attraction for intellectuals and business people of the time.

Over time, Abraham Lincoln Avenue was reorganized in the boulevard of Sabana Grande. Besides, since this urban space turned out to be convenient for the construction of a metro, its construction began in 1975. The fate of the boulevard was sealed in favor of pedestrians with the emergence of this new type of transport: the street ceased to be a highway.

However, the promenade ceased to be attractive for small retail outlets as the authorities of that time neglected its maintenance and decoration. This allowed private construction companies to start drawing the attention of Caracas residents to the shopping malls that became popular in the late 1990s. In 2007, having switched back to the historical value of the boulevard, the Venezuelan government ordered its large-scale restoration: gradually the street was filled with life and outdoor urban art objects, acquiring its recognizable appearance.
