Every corner of this amazingly bright and cheerful country can tell its own story and could become one of its main attractions. There are traces of ancient Indian civilizations everywhere, and the language of those times remains one of the official languages of the state. Thousands of artifacts were found by archaeologists on the territory of Paraguay and thousands more were left hidden in the bowels of the Earth. Myths and legends are part of the religion of this nation, which continues to believe in immortality and «land without evil». That’s how the Guarani Indians call the afterlife, which scientists and historians still learn about from excavations of numerous tombs and pyramids of Paraguayan cities.

One of such large-scale burial places is a high hill in the city of Lambaré which offers a fantastic panoramic view of the entire Asunción district and even the border with Argentina. There have never been any excavations. But according to the archaeologists’ researches, every urban hill in Paraguay isn’t a natural creation, but the creation of ancient ancestors of local Indian tribes. The famous mound of Lambaré is located on the bank of the Paraguay River and rises almost 140 meters above sea level. At the top of the hill, there is an open observation deck that is crowned by the gigantic stone Monument to the Victorious World, the work of the famous Spanish sculptor Juan de Ávalos. Its ceremonial opening took place in 1982. On the hill, there is another monument devoted to the local Indian cacique, a brave leader of the opposition during the Spanish colonial period.

Nowadays, Lambaré Hill is the hallmark of the city and one of the most popular tourist attractions. Here people meet wonderful sunrises, see off fascinating sunsets, arrange business appointments and romantic dates. From the top of the hill, photographers make their best shots, and local artists create immortal pieces of art.
