Tourists go to Italy to listen to classical opera, to Spain to see an enchanting bullfight, to Germany to drink foamy beer, and to Paraguay to watch real men's football. Everything in this country is steeped in the history and culture of the sport. Famous athletes were born here, monuments are erected and museums dedicated to football are open, and even the smallest city certainly has its own stadium and a football club.
There are two football clubs in the city of Capiatá - the famous Club Deportivo Capiatá and one of the oldest clubs in the country, Club Martín Ledesma. Each has its own home stadium: Club Martín Ledesma hosts matches and training sessions in a small stadium named Enrique Soler with a capacity of about 5,000. But the real pride of Capiatá is the stadium of the football team of Club Deportivo Capiatá.
The Erico Galeano Segovia Stadium was opened in 2009. At the beginning of 2014, it got modern lighting, so now matches on its field can be watched not only during the day but also in the light of dozens of spotlights. It makes the players' competition even more spectacular and intense. The stadium was originally called Capiateño. It was renamed in honor of the Vice President of Club Deportivo Capiatá Erico Galeano Segovia only in 2015. The modern stadium can accommodate over 15,000 spectators. It has served as the official venue for national and international championships since 2014. Then Paraguay's team Club Deportivo Capiatá and the most titled club of Venezuela Caracas Fútbol Club met to compete for the South American Cup. Since then, the stadium has attracted thousands of loyal fans every year. It hosts the games of the South American Championship and the international football tournament - Copa CONMEBOL Libertadoresthe, that was organized for the first time in 1960 by the South American Football Confederation.
