On the shore of Talcahuano, there is a great park-museum, Parque Museo Pedro del Río Zañartu, a unique isle of wildlife. You can really clear your head and take your mind off things in this place.

The park is situated on the Hualpen peninsula washed by the ocean. The local flora amazes as one part of the territory has a Mediterranean climate and the other – moderate. Unique endangered kinds of plants grow there, for example, Pitavia punctata and Gomortega keule. The forest is also quite picturesque, and even though you are not that into biology, it’s still worth visiting at least for the sake of great photos. By the way, one of the most beautiful places in the park is Cerro Pompom, from where you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the rocks, beaches, and harbors.

One more wonderful place in Parque Museo Pedro del Río is a beach Bío Bío. It faces the Pacific ocean, but you can’t swim there. Tourists come here to watch the ocean, to fish or have a picnic. This place is also extremely great for photoshoots. What attracts those photo lovers from social networks from all over the world? The unique black sand covering the coastline of 300 meters long.

There is the so-called Flora Centre on the territory of the park, where different plants are grown for restoring the local flora. In the territory of 1600 square meters, there are gardens, nurseries, greenhouses, and administrative buildings. By the way, students often come here: they conduct practical classes of environmental studies and ecology.

But this is not all you can do in the Park! There is a museum with an unusual collection: items telling stories about Chilean archeology and ethnography, weapons, Chinese and Japanese porcelain, and even an Egyptian mummy! Everyone is sure to find something interesting in the museum.
