If you ask someone who has never been to Chile about the music of this bright and cheerful country, you will most likely hear a long story about Indians quietly singing their folk songs to the sound of national instruments. And if you ask them about the Chilean rock culture, there is a risk of gaining the character of a crank. Sometimes when we think we're smart, later we realize how little we know. But the world-famous rock bands such as Los Tres, Los Bunkers and Machuca come from these places. The Republic of Chile even has its own "capital of Chilean rock" as the locals call the city of Concepción. Numerous rock trends of Chilean music and culture were founded there by students of the best educational institutions in the country. Concerts of rock bands are often held there, because the main population of the city is young people, and Concepción itself is a city of students. There are more than 30 educational institutions and thousands of students from all over the world. The English language is everywhere. So as you might easily guess, the main attraction of the city is the University of Concepción.
The first private educational institution in the country was founded in 1919. It is considered the oldest and most prestigious university in the city. It is located in a large park area with several museums and art galleries. It also houses the museum La Casa del Arte José Clemente Orozco, or Pinacoteca, which has the largest collection of paintings in the country outside the capital. The 1.5 million square meter campus includes not only academic facilities but also a research center. The university owns 11 libraries. Besides, the Central Library covers an area of 10 thousand square meters and is located on 5 floors. The university's other two campuses are in Chillán and Los Angeles.
