Museum Sergipana People Gov. Marcelo Déda is an interactive multimedia museum dedicated to the material and immaterial cultural heritage of the people of the Sergipe state. It is one of Brazil's main exhibition spaces, as well as the Museum of Portuguese Language and the Museum of Football in São Paulo.
One of the most modern museums in the country was opened in 2011. It presents bright installations and holds temporary exhibitions, many events, and presentations. But that is not all! Here, you can completely immerse yourself in the life of exotic people and try the traditional Sergipe cuisine in a local cafe. And amateurs of craftsmanship can look with their own eyes how local artisans work.
What can you see in the museum? One of the most impressive installations is a copy of the traditional local market. In the Brazilian culture, this spot is not just a place for trade, but a communication centre of any city. In the museum you can not just look at the market flavor but also talk to a seller named Josevende.
Of course, the traditions of the people are especially noticeable in costumes. So, there is a separate exhibition in the museum dedicated to this theme. Here, you can see how a young girl dresses in typical Sergipe costumes, looks in the mirror, and dances.
A separate installation is dedicated to local cuisine. If you come there, you can learn several local recipes, which you can repeat at home. The exhibit looks like this: on the interactive table, there are several traditional Sergipe ingredients. The visitor needs to combine them correctly to create a dish of South American cuisine.
Museum Sergipana People Gov. Marcelo Déda is open daily except for Mondays. Working hours: from Tuesday to Friday, you can come there from 10 to 16 hours, on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays - from 10 to 15 hours. By the way, the entrance is free!
