Museo Provincial de Bellas Artes "Laureano Brizuela" of the Argentine city of Catamarca is known throughout the country. The museum is famous for its exposition of various pieces of art. They are created by outstanding masters. The museum’s collection is not just diverse. It is considered the most valuable in Argentina.

The museum is located in a historic mansion on San Martin Street in the heart of Catamarca. Nowadays, its exposition is presented in four halls: Laureano Brizuela Room, Varela Lezana Room, and two small spaces. Besides, there are internal and external patios, utility rooms, and a library called “Hernando Dalla Lasta”. It is keeping more than 600 volumes.

In the museum, you can see a collection of more than 370 works including engravings, paintings, etchings, aquatints, woodcuts, silkscreens, and sculptures.

The idea of establishing the Museo Provincial de Bellas Artes was born in 1935 thanks to the famous artist and photographer Laureano Brizuela. This city was native to him. And his idea was supported by both the authorities and the public.

The locals were very attentive and enthusiastic about the idea of creating a museum. They were helping the artist during this process. Someone made donations, someone offered pieces of art, someone did work on credit.

The opening of the museum was so important that not only activists or philanthropists were taking part in it. Even the president of Argentina contributed to this building.

And soon, on July 8, 1936, the Museo Provincial de Bellas Artes was inaugurated with a lot of people present.

This museum has long been the only one in Catamarca specifically focused on art. It is hard to overestimate its collection. Among hundreds of works, kept in the museum, there are works by Benito Quinquela Martín, Emilio Caraffa, Rafael Galindez, Dall Last, Varel Lezan, and other masters.
