The magnificent Teatro Vera in Corrientes in its name immortalized the memory of the city founder Juan de Vera. Citizens call it Teatro Vera, love, and respect it.
Teatro Vera was built in 1913 and reconstructed a hundred years later, in 2005.
The magnificent building is located in the historic quarter. Teatro Vera has impressive acoustics and performances become a real pleasure for true music lovers.
The opening of the modern theatre building was marked by the premiere of Giuseppe Verdi's opera "Aida" on May 25, 1913. Since then, Teatro Vera has hosted a large number of famous opera troupes. During the theatre seasons, the public enjoyed the theatre’s own performances and performances of touring groups in the genres of music, ballet, theatre and children's shows, cultural events, including films and video cycles, educational concerts, tours, technical courses, conferences, and even exhibitions. Now, it is possible to host about 200 annual events.
The facade of the theatre is symmetrical. It is divided into three levels and a frieze with allegorical figures. The hall can be reached by a magnificent marble staircase. One part of it is protected by an ornated iron canopy that supports the central balcony and emphasizes the majesty of the main entrance.
The theatre hall is small, with a capacity of about 700 seats. Its walls are covered with majolica, illuminated by beautiful bronze sconces and a luxurious main chandelier.
The decoration of the theatre traditionally includes masks, garlands, and reproduction of Guido Renni's painting "El Carro de la Aurora". What about the ceiling, it depicts scenes from the mythology and cultural life of Corrientes.
