In Argentina, cathedrals are not rarity, they are not only religious buildings, but also examples of architectural art. You can see one of them in the city of Comodoro Rivadavia. It is called Catedral de San Juan Bosco.
The cathedral is the essential religious building, located in the city centre. Interestingly, the Catedral de San Juan Bosco became the first Church in the world, the patron of which is Saint John Bosco (San Juan Bosco), the founder of the Salesian Order. Archbishop Argimiro Moure opened doors of Catedral de San Juan Bosco in 1978. The following year, Bishop Mariano Perez consecrated it.
The architectural image of the cathedral is unusual. It harmoniously combines Gothic and Modernist styles. Some of its decoration details, such as stained-glass windows, were delivered from the Italian city of Turin. The cathedral is about four decades, but its construction has not been completed yet. Unfortunately, its design has several engineering mistakes that can lead to the fall of the walls. They might not resist the weight of finishing.
Catedral de San Juan Bosco is made of brick and concrete. Its sizes are impressive: length is 62 meters, width is 20 meters. The height of the nave ceilings is about 17 meters. The shrine has 12 columns representing 12 apostles. The tower is crowned with an impressive aluminum cross.
Several artists were working on the interior design. The apse wall is decorated by Dolores Ocampo de Moron, Jadwiga Szymanski de Koprowoski, and Marta Moroder. Martha Moroder created another piece of art in the cathedral, a statue of the Virgin Mary.
