The Bahia Blanca City Theater (Teatro Municipal de Bahia Blanca) is a magnificent building. Besides, it is included in the top ten cultural centers in Argentina.

The theater is over a hundred years old. Its construction started in 1911. In 1913, there was a grand opening. The visitors were watching the opera of the outstanding Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi - Aida. Interestingly, the same opera was performing at the opening of the Teatro Coln in Buenos Aires in 1908.

Another significant event took place in 1928. The city anthem was played here for the first time in honor of the 100th anniversary of Bahia Blanca. But the theater attracts not only with its plays but its architecture.

The theater was designed in the French academic style, and you can notice some features of the Paris Opera. The central facade is decorated with solid columns and balconies with balustrades. The latter ones have signs drama, tragedy, and comedy. Above the frieze, you can see an inscription Municipal Theater.

The auditorium is rather small. It is designed for 850 people. The facade of the theater overlooks two city squares - Dorrego and Payro.

In 1975, the theater was closed because of the poor condition. Citizens and public organizations, including the Women's Circle, were putting the funds toward the restoration. Owing to this initiative, we can enjoy the art in Teatro Municipal de Bahia Blanca and see such beautiful views.

The theater is used a lot. It has perfect acoustics. So, you can see more than 200 performances per year.
