In the heart of the Wild West, in a hot desert surrounded by hills, in a place earlier inhabited by the Navajo Indians, you can see one of the main sights of Tucson, Old Tucson Theme Park.
On the one hand, it is a true Columbia Pictures American film studio. It was built in 1939 for the shooting of famous film Arizona. Later, that film became not only one of the main nominees for the Academy Award in 1941, but also the holder of two precious statuettes. In just 40 days, 50 buildings were built, some of which can still be seen today. Since then, more than 400 films and TV series, as well as various commercial projects have been shot here. These were works in the Western genre which is so beloved by Americans. Then, that direction was at the peak of its popularity and had its stars. One of them was the famous Hollywood actor, the King of the West, John Wayne. There were other representatives of the Golden age of Hollywood who starred here, Bing Crosby, Ingrid Bergman, Ronald Reagan, Paul Newman, and Clint Eastwood.
On the other hand, Old Tucson is a huge theme park. So, you can take a fascinating walk through the Wild West. This can be done as part of a guided tour and hear interesting stories about each of the scenery, or on your own, slowly walking along the colorful streets.
The park was opened to the public in 1960 while working as the film studio. The number of its decors was enlarging with each new film. And in 1968, a large sound stage was built on its territory for simultaneous recording of sound and images of some of the film's subjects. Old attractions and theatrical shows appeared. The most popular ones are staged shootouts of actors on the streets and cancan dancers in the saloons. For children, there are separate entertainment activities: a tour in the Park on a mini train by rail or trips in retro cars.
