Did you also want to know what it meant to be a fireman? Raleigh Fire Museum in North Carolina offers you this opportunity. Here you can learn the history of this job, hold some exhibits, and even try a lifeguard uniform on.

The fire service in Raleigh has a rich history. Since 1912, the city was served by 16 fire engines and more than 1,500 employees. Among them, there were trained people and volunteers. The apparition of such a service was a big day for a small town. Many people have documented this historic moment. You can read about it in fiction and women's albums. Many of these confirmations are exhibits now.

The museum was opened in 2011. It is a classic red car in the Keeter training center. You can look at hundreds of artifacts and photos, several types of firefighters’ uniforms, equipment of the 20th and 21st centuries, communication and warning devices, firefighting tools. There is even the first-aid kit of the first rescuers. So, you can explore a 150-year-old story of firefighters.

Among the expositions, there is a “fire tower”. You can climb it and check how fast could you find the fire in the city. The other interactive entertainment is wearing a modern fire uniform weighing several kilograms. Also, you can try to be a dispatcher: transmit a message through warning systems about fire, hold items putting out the blaze. These are shovels, extinguisher, and fireman’s hose.

The Raleigh Fire Museum holds business meetings on the first Monday of every month and special education programs for students. You can take a tour on the second Saturday of each month from 10:00 to 14:00. On other days, the museum is open only for organized groups.
