Those, who gaze up at the stars at night and dream to see the Earth from space, need to visit this place in Auckland. Chabot Science and Space Center is an area with thematic interactive exhibits and events, planetariums, and three powerful telescopes.

The center was opened in the public observatory, which has had astronomical education programs for local schools since 1883. It was named after the scientist of hydraulic mining and the largest philanthropist of the Auckland Observatory, Anthony Chabot. The new name was related to the mission of the organization. The name “scientific and space center” shows a wide range of opportunities provided in the center and a high level of technical equipment.

The Chabot Space & Science Center is a modern scientific and technical educational institution of more than 8,000 square meters. Next to the building, close to the Sequoia National Park, you can take a rest in an area of 10 football fields.

All visitors can feel them like astronauts.  The Challenger Training Center is a site imitating space during a flight. You choose the mode and go to explore the universe without leaving home.

In the center, there are three telescopes. “Leah” is the oldest one. It is an 8-inch telescope built in 1883 by Alvan Clark & Sons. It was offered to Anthony Chabot. You can see the closest expanses of the galaxy by it. “Rachel” is the largest telescope in the western United States open to the public. “Nellie” is a 36-inch telescope keeping in an observatory with a moving roof. You can visit it on certain days.

The center has two planetariums. It is a full-dome digital projection system and Zeiss Universarium fiber-optic projector. A world-class optics recreate sky with 9,000 celestial objects. You can admire the sky in the first planetarium every day, in the second one - once a week.

The entire center is equipped with interactive information displays telling about the history of space exploration and scientific researches made today.

Apart from planetariums, you can see the expanses of the galaxy at the Tien MegaDome Theater. It is a dome screen audience with a seven-story house height. Every week, it shows various IMAX shows about science.

The center is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The ticket costs $ 18.
