Carroll Shelby was born in East Texas in 1923. Even as a child, he was fascinated by the world of cars. He couldn't wait to have his own car. From the age of 15, Carroll enjoyed driving his father's two-door Ford sedan and carried about it a lot. Then he went to serve the army aviation corps and participated in the Second World War. Then began his successful career as a racing driver.
When you do what you love, you try to make everything perfect, and the example of Carroll Shelby confirms this fact. He drove sports cars of leading companies, Ferrari and Maserati, and in just 2 years won 12 races. The peak of Shelby's racing career came in 1959 when he won the «24 hours of Le Mans» driving an Aston Martin. However, serious heart problems forced him to leave racing in 1960 and plunge into automobile design.
During his career, Carroll Shelby drove the fastest sports cars of the time. However, they had serious disadvantages – high prices and complex engines that required constant maintenance and repair. In 1962, Shelby created the Shelby American, Inc. and tackled this problem. This is how the legendary Cobra racing sports car was born. However, it was only the dawn of our hero's success as a car designer.
