The Mob Museum is the U.S. National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement. It was opened in 2012. The museum is located in a former courthouse in the very center of Las Vegas.
Before the museum was established, the courthouse was sold for one dollar on the condition that it would be completely restored and look like an original building.
The central place of the museum is the courtroom on the second floor. One of fourteen hearings of the National Committee took place here. It revealed crimes of interstate commerce. The peak of such crimes was reached in the 50s. They were so frequent that threatened the US economy.
In this hall, all items are left in their places. The only thing the museum management did was to hang huge photographs of those times.
The other very impressive place in the museum is a brick wall. In front of it, there was a bloody massacre on Valentine's Day in Chicago. Seven people were killed by unknown men dressed in police uniforms. It happened during a fight for control over organized crime. The museum bought this wall from the owner of the building in Chicago, delivered it to Las Vegas, and installed it on the ground floor.
In addition to the wall and the courtroom, the museum has a large number of data dedicated to economic crimes and the work of the FBI. For example, here is a system allowing policemen to listen to suspects' telephone conversations. Besides, you can see photographs of criminals. Every one of them has a description of their lives. The museum exhibits slot machines which do not allow to win at all. They were withdrawing from the casinos, and their owners were accused of illegal activities.
The Mob Museum is for people who have already seen popular sights and want to explore something new.
