The Grand Canyon is admired by people from all over the world for many years, more than 4 million people visit this place every year. All of them want to explore the amazing wonders that only nature can make and touch the history of the Native Americans.
A trip to the Grand Canyon can be the most exciting adventure of your life but it can also be frustrating in case if you do not pay attention to careful preparation in advance. Every detail is important there, right down to the decision where to go to meet the sunrises and to watch the sunsets.
To avoid a large number of tourists, feel at one with nature and enjoy one of the best views of the great gorge and the Colorado River, you should go to South Rim park to the Desert View Watchtower which is located in the easternmost part of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.
You can reach your destination by car on the Desert View Drive, but do not rush to get from point A to point B, because along the way you can find a lot of interesting things. Along the road, there are several observation platforms that are definitely worth a look. They do not have as many tourists as the lookouts along the more popular and shorter Hermits Rest Road and this is their main advantage. The views to the East from Yaki point, Grandview point, Moran point, and Navajo point are no less impressive than in the neighboring part of the park. At the entrance to the Desert View Watchtower, you will see the ruins of Tusayan, a place that was home to the Puebloans about eight hundred years ago.
The tower itself is a four-story stone structure designed in 1932 by architect Mary Colter. It resembles the buildings of the indigenous Puebloans. The interior walls are covered with frescoes by a Hopi painter Fred Kabotie and other Native American artists. These images tell the story of the formation and development of culture in the Grand Canyon. The upper floors of the Desert View Watchtower offer stunning views of the Eastern part of the Grand Canyon. See for yourself that the panorama becomes even more beautiful in the rays of the dawn and sunset.
