Grand Canyon National Park needs no introduction. It is located in the state of Arizona near the city of Flagstaff on the territory of the Grand Canyon which is considered to be one of the most beautiful places. Every year millions of tourists from all over the world strive to get there to see the stunning rocky landscapes at least once. The grandiose landscape of the Grand Canyon formed at least 70 million years ago. Its length is almost 500 kilometers, its width is almost 30 kilometers and its depth is more than one and a half kilometers. This is the largest and most famous canyon on the planet, no other canyon equals it. A long time ago before the arrival of the first Europeans, this place was inhabited by the indigenous peoples of North America – the Puebloans. Once the grandeur and beauty of the Grand Canyon were appreciated by Theodore Roosevelt – the 26th President of the United States of America. Thanks to the politician, this place started to gain popularity, and in 1919, it received the status of the first and oldest National Park in the United States. The Colorado River divides Grand Canyon Park into two main areas: the remote North Rim in the North and the more popular South Rim in the South. Whichever way you choose to explore the Grand Canyon first, you will get a lot of unforgettable experience. But do not try to see both sides of the park in one day since it is impossible: you will either have to drive for many hours or hike with an overnight stay. The Northern and Southern parts of the Grand Canyon differ from each other a lot. It seems like these are two separate and unique parks located on the banks of the same river that separates them, although, in reality, it unites them. The center of the tourist activity in the park is considered to be Grand Canyon Village which is a small village where the most popular Bright Angel Trail begins and where you can learn about the history of the canyon origin and development. Besides, the park has many natural attractions, observation decks that offer scenic and spectacular views over the Grand Canyon, many campsites where you can relax and spend a night, and for extreme sports fans – the opportunity to head down the Colorado River or ride mules.
