The Carolina Renaissance Festival is an amazing theme park and one of America’s largest Renaissance fairs. It is located in the fictional village of Fairhaven in the autumn forests of Charlotte. The open-air parking and craft market are full of houses and bungalows of 16th-century European architecture. Over 140 merchants and artisans work to create, exhibit, and sell quality handmade products of all kinds. Characters from the past come to life on 14 open-air stages in a non-stop performance with theater, comedy, music, dancing, magic, circus entertainments, mermaids swimming, and falconry demonstrations.
The festival is located North of Charlotte, North Carolina, between the cities of Huntersville and Concord. It is held annually on Saturdays and Sundays in October and November, attracting up to 195,000 people!
The stage shows include live music, dancing, comedy shows, as well as artists of various circus skills - juggling and acrobatics. Musicians play traditional and lesser-known historical instruments: harp, bagpipes, and many others. Various professional and street artists take part in interactive shows. In addition to 14 scenes of non-stop entertainment, there are three main attractions.
The first of these is the battle of knights on horses: three times a day, professional rider artists participate in a vivid performance. Battles are evaluated with historical accuracy, awarding points, and victory to true wrestlers during each of the competitions. The last battle of the day ends with a conflict in the form of a ground fight for “death”.
The ancient art of falconry is presented four times a day at the Edgewood Theater. See how various birds of prey demonstrate unique skills that have long fascinated the nobles and turned falconry into a sport of kings!
Finally, the exhibition presents sea fairies, mermaids floating in an aquarium with a capacity of 11,000 liters. This exhibition accompanies a little mermaid sitting on a throne and taking photos with children.
The festival also has its theater troupe consisting of more than 100 costumed characters. They interact directly with visitors in an attempt to create a more authentic feeling of the Renaissance City and help revitalize the village. Among them, you can find a village baker, a tavern owner, and a trio "Singing Milkmaid". You can also meet the mayor of the city and the fictional royal family. The troupe together with visiting artists guarantees an unforgettable experience of the festival!
