Green leaves, birdsong, warm breezes, and beautiful sculptures all around. This seems to be quite an atypical picture for Mexico, but it is not. Even in the hot Tlaquepaque, there are oases of freshness such as Jardín Hidalgo.
The park was laid out in the middle of the 20th century near the main square of the city. Ask the locals about this park and you will see the warmth in their eyes. This place is the real heart of Tlaquepaque.
The park is not one space with flower beds and hedges as everyone is used to. Jardín Hidalgo is divided into four separate parks connected by stone paths. The flora of each of them is very diverse. Numerous flowers exude a wonderful aroma. Tall broad-leaved palms and ash trees create a natural shadow. It makes walking in the park even more pleasant.
The park has many stalls with local street food. Take a taco and sit on a bench. Are all benches occupied by people? Yes, the park is a favorite place for citizens. This is an almost universal place for a date. Therefore, there are a lot of happy lovers who tenderly hold hands and kiss on the benches.
Created relatively recently, Jardín Hidalgo has become the most important place in the city. It hosts fairs, festivals, lectures, exhibitions, concerts. Come there in the afternoon. Entrance to all events is free. And when the sun sets and the moon rises above Tlaquepaque, the park turns into a trendy nightclub. Almost every evening, locals play music and dance there.
If you are tired of the heat and the many shops after a walk around the city, the best thing you can do is go to Jardín Hidalgo. There you can arrange rest for the soul, retiring to a remote part of the park, as well as take a walk, admire sculptures or participate in competitions.
