Burn all the most valuable things, collect bundles of 52 branches, and also burn them. Then wait, sitting in the dark. Whether the world ends or the gods are kind, life will continue as usual. This ritual was performed every 52 years by the ancient inhabitants of Tenayuca. Now the history of this nation can be found in the museum, which is located inside the pyramid of Tenayuca.

Once Tenayuca, translated from the language of the ancient Aztecs as “a place surrounded by walls”, was a strong independent fortress. The stones look very ancient, but they also seem strong and reliable even after 900 years. Scientists suggest that this place was inhabited even earlier. Can you imagine? You step where people stepped almost a thousand years ago. They lived in this place. Their world lasted only 52 years, and then they seemed to be born again.

It’s better to study the history of this place in advance since all your thoughts will be devoted to this unusual “snake pyramid”. Yes, there are a lot of snakes, but they are all "domestic". The ancient Chichimecs tamed them. So now numerous snakes lay quietly on the stairs of the pyramid, decorating it with their black stone heads. They have spiral ridges on their heads. It`s a symbol of "fire snakes": weapons of the sun god of the peoples of North America. The ancients worshiped the sun and fire and believed that rebirth occurs in flame.

The pyramid consists of several parts. Each one has the same decorative elements: bones and carved images of skulls. Do not forget that sacrifice, including human sacrifice, was common among the ancient tribes. To climb the upper tiers there is a staircase that is also decorated with various haphazard carvings: a pictogram of the year, a rectangle and a triangle, banners, concentric circles, a knife, turquoise, chimalli and precious stones.
