The heritage, artistic and cultural life of an area can attract tourists and create better quality of life for those who live there.
An Italian student smashed a Greek sculpture at Milan’s Academy of Fine Arts of Brera after he hopped on its lap in order to capture that perfect selfie.
Every year on December 23, the Mexican state of Oaxaca presents the most impressive display of carved vegetables in the world.
The city of Monterrey is the “Sultan of the North”. Its main attraction should be called the “Heart of the Sultan”. But residents of the richest and most prosperous city of Mexico were less poetic. They named this architectural monument "the Lighthouse of Commerce".
The initial design of the lighthouse differed from its current version. It should have a red shade of “bull blood”, and spotlights on the top were supposed to illuminate the sky with three different colors. But people accepted a simpler and easier version. So, the inhabitants of Monterrey loved a new sight.
The grand opening of the monument took place in 1984 on the day of the Chamber of Commerce centennial. The former Mexican President Miguel de la Madrid Hurtado participated there. The lighthouse was designed by two architects Raúl Ferrera and Luis Ramiro Barragán Morfín. The second one made Satellite Towers in Naucalpan. Lighthouse of Commerce became a popular tourist attraction. All tourists want to take a photo of this known sculpture.
With a height of about 70 meters and a width of more than 12, this piece of art looks like an orange arrow piercing the sky. It is hard to imagine one simpler and more incredible construction. Its building started in 1983, a year before the grand opening. And one more year later, people installed a laser mechanism that worked with the modern Lasermax software. Every day, after dark, a ray of green light rotates in a circle and illuminates the way of lonely city wanderers.
Since its opening, the Lighthouse of Commerce is the highest and the most-visited object in the city. Every day, locals appoint business meetings and romantic dates. And tourists staying in Monterrey try to take perfect photos.
