Queen Victoria Park, opened in 1888, is probably one of the most beautiful park complexes in all of Canada. It consists of a huge number of separate gardens, each of which has its theme and landscape layout. Besides, there are several old buildings that were previously used both as residential buildings and as beautiful restaurants. There are also two museums preserved there. Their owners had a real fight for visitors at the end of the 19th century.
Today, millions of people come to this park in the spring to watch the first flowers bloom. There are more than 500,000 species of plants: magnolias, tulips, daffodils. In summer, they are replaced by fuchsias, cannas, chrysanthemums, and roses, which bloom until late autumn. In winter, the park turns into a fabulous venue for the annual Winter Lights Festival. So visiting the park at any time of the year will be an unforgettable adventure filled with bright emotions.
However, even the variety of plants is not the main attraction of Queen Victoria Park. People come there to see the waterfalls. The entire park is located along the Niagara River Gorge, where the most famous Niagara Falls is located. Next to it, there is a convenient and completely safe viewing platform. So everyone can come to the park to admire this natural wonder.
In addition to the Niagara Falls, the park has three other waterfalls: American, Bridal Veil, and Horseshoe.
There is a legend that an Indian girl threw herself down a waterfall trying to escape from an unwanted wedding. However, the spirit of the waterfall caught her and hid her in the gorge among the streams of water. The spirit also brought her lover there. According to the legend, hundreds of young couples come to the waterfalls to throw a coin. It is believed that this brings happiness and helps to make a strong relationship.
