How long has it been since you were on the bus? And on the trolleybus? The Public Transport Museum provides a great opportunity to see Britain and Manchester from a different, unusual side. Imagine how rushing to work in the morning, the residents of Manchester jumped to the outgoing red bus, went up to the second floor and relaxed sighed, took a breath, enjoying the ride. Dip into the past and see "how it was with them". Although why was it? Some of the exhibits are still performing their functions properly.
The museum features 80 buses, two trolleybuses that recently worked on the lines in Manchester and Ashton-under-Lyne, a prototype tram "Manchester Metrolink" and the tram "Manchester Corporation Tramways". There is also something that you don't expect to see in a Public Transport Museum. Next to the double-decker red buses, the symbol of Britain, there is the ghost bus of Stan Shunpike from "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban".
If you want to get yourself even more into the history of public transport and a whole hangar with buses is not enough for you, the museum also offers old flight schedules, maps, books, posters, usage guides, and photos from previous years.
Don't be surprised if you don't find an exhibit there. Maybe it's just participating in a festival. One of the features of the museum of public transport is a non-permanent collection of exhibits. Some, especially buses during the summer, could be on "tour". Then they fully perform their main function. For example, during major events, you can take the historic bus from Manchester Victoria station to the museum.
If you are a fan of gears, nuts, constantly sit in the garage, sorting through the car, then this place is just for you. Transport there is repaired right in front of the camera lens. Workers are not confused by the crowds of tourists.
