Something is alluring and mysterious about the ruined old buildings. On the one hand, it's sad. On the other hand, it encourages interest in the past, in the history of the world as a whole and a particular place.

The Temple Church in Bristol is one of these places. Then it was oval, like most of the buildings of the order. During its history, the church has changed many owners, which influenced its architecture. In the 14th century, the construction was transferred to another order, to the Hospitaller. When it was abolished, during the Church reforms of Henry VIII, the church became a parish.

The thing that immediately catches your eye and evokes memories of Italy is a leaning tower. Experts even gave it the nickname "the leaning". The tower began to be built in the 14th century. The slant appeared almost immediately because the church was located in a swampy area. Construction stopped for a while and then resumed again. The slant only increased, but the tower with the bell tower of 35 meters high was still completed.

At first, the church was called "the Church of the Holy cross". It was a large church with several chapels. One of them was the Chapel of the Bristol Weavers' Guild. In the Late Middle Ages, the textile industry was the main one in Bristol. And it was located just in the Templar District.

Perhaps the beautiful structure with painted windows and arches would have survived to this day, but the Second World War made its adjustments. The bomb that fell on the fortress almost destroyed it, leaving only the foundation and walls. The city authorities did not restore it or demolish it. What an effect it would have had if it had been restored! Even now, these walls and the tilted tower are fascinating.

Today, the Temple Church is a veritable ghost of the past in the heart of Bristol.
