The Textile Museum is one of the ten most interesting places in Boras. Although it is small, it is certainly worth a visit to see how the production of fabrics in Sweden developed and what outfits people wore in different periods of the 20th century.

For many years, the best production of fabrics in Europe was located in Boras, as it housed many weaving factories and professional workers. In the 60s of the 20th century, the production of fabrics in Boras began to decrease. Some enterprises were closed. Then it was decided to commemorate the heyday of the Boras textile industry by creating a textile museum. The museum was placed in the Art Silk old factories in the Simonsland neighborhood. After 20 years, the museum's expositions grew so much that they had to be transferred to the old cotton factory. However, the museum didn't settle there. In 2010, the Municipal Council decided to establish the Textile Fashion Center and combine different projects in one place. So the museum returned to the place where it began its journey in the 1960s.

The museum features various looms dating back to ancient times when the threads had to be manually intertwined to become fabric. By the way, then they were very small and could fit on a table. Later, there were machines the size of not one, but two or even three tables. They are also displayed in the museum. Moreover, each machine is set with threads and partially finished fabric, so you can see the principle of thread interweaving: different fabrics have a different number of threads and layers, which affects their density and strength.

In addition to standard exhibitions, the museum regularly hosts various festivals, lectures, and even fashion shows. It also provides educational programs for the residents of Boras, which are designed to tell schoolchildren and students not only about the history of fabric but also about the variability of fashion trends. By the way, on the second floor of the museum, there is a hall where you can try on outfits from different eras and styles. For example, you can turn into a young lady from the 1920s.
