The Jabalquinto Palace is one of the most impressive buildings on the grounds of the Spanish city of Baeza in the Andalusian province of Jaen. It was built in the 15th century as an ancestral home for Juan I Alfonso de Benavides el Bueno, the 2nd senor of Jabalquinto and relative of King Ferdinand II of Aragon. Today, it houses the International University of Antonio Machado's office.

The Jabalquinto Palace is rightfully regarded as one of the most beautiful buildings in the city and its architectural icon. Along with other historical constructions of Baeza and Ubeda, executed in the Renaissance style, it’s part of UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

The most important element of the Jabalquinto Palace is its main facade. Many architects, art historians and travellers note its resemblance to the Palace of Davalos in Ubeda, also known as Casa de las Torres or House with towers. However, whereas the latter is decorated with shells, plant motives prevail in the decor of the former.

The Jabalquinto Palace facade executed in a whimsical style of Flamboyant Gothic with ornate elements of Arabesque architecture is a true piece of art that can be admired for hours. Sophisticated lacy carvings with an abundance of small details, magical windows in Oriental style, massive stone columns the capitals of which are decorated with intricate ornaments… One can’t help but wonder what kind of a magician could create such incredible beauty!

Speaking of which, they say that the palace was created by several renowned architects of that time. Enrique de Egas was responsible for the design of the building, Juan Guas designed the facade, and Pedro Lopez was the chief constructor.

Inside the palace, admire the monumental stone stairway and the magnificent arch that leads to it. Both constructions were executed in the Baroque style and decorated with marvellous carvings.

Finally, go deeper inside the Jabalquinto Palace and relax in its courtyard. There you’ll see marble columns that form double arcades decorated with Coats of arms and the best elements of the Renaissance atmosphere.
