The coal industry, mines, mining... Few people want to see this kind of sights during their long-awaited vacation. But it is better to book a tour to the Coal Mining Museum in Velenje in advance, so as not to worry about availability on arrival. The museum offers a highly unusual interactive adventure to its visitors. And even if you're not claustrophobic, get ready to experience the thrill. Deep descent, silence, and confined space will touch everyone's feelings.

To get permission to descend into the mine, you must study a mandatory safety instruction and get a protective kit: a jacket, a helmet, and an integral attribute of every miner, a number. This is how the control system works: it keeps records of the descent and ascent of workers into the mine. You also have to give up the phones and cameras during the tour. The security measures are the same for everyone, both for tourists and employees. A classic miner's lunch will make your stay in the mine even more authentic. The famous Carniolan sausage, bread, and some juice will be served in the deepest "underground dining room" in Slovenia.

The tour begins with a shout "Srecno!" ("Happy"). Then you start descending on the oldest mining elevator in the country (1888) to a depth of 160 meters. After watching a multimedia film about the daily life of miners at different times, you will have a ride on a miner's cart accompanied by mini-performances. The various visual effects of some scenes are so realistic that they move to tears. But do not think that cheerful miners don`t have funny stories about their work. The brilliantly simulated explosion literally shakes the ground beneath your feet and takes you back to the past, when the miners had to face a similar situation every day.

The final part of the one-and-a-half-hour underground tour is dedicated to modern methods of coal mining. But before you get to the surface of the earth again, the local "metro" will take you directly to the elevator, which, according to the workers, has never broken down.
