You can spend hours wandering through the streets of the capital, admiring the central square, visiting the famous galleries and the main shrines of the country, but still be unable to get acquainted with the country and its people, their ancient traditions and way of life. Or you can go to the old town. It seems to be unremarkable at first glance. It is not crowded with tourists or filled with loud voices of the guides. However, there is the incomparable atmosphere of this city, locals, and children, as well as the entire state with a rich history and culture. This amazing, small, quiet, calm city is picturesque Kranj, located on the banks of the scenic Sava River just a few kilometers from the Slovenian capital, Ljubljana. All its citizens know each other, honor the centuries-old traditions, and are happy to share them with tourists. In each secluded courtyard, there is a cozy cafe serving the famous Kranj sausage under the spacious arches. It is especially pleasant to learn its history: all the 20 old cafes in the Old Town have their roots in the distant past, full of legends and traditions. After satisfying your physical hunger with delicious national dishes, go sightseeing to the historic center of Kranj, the Old Town. Every part of the city center can tell you a story, every building immerses you in the mysterious past of the cultural capital of Slovenia. Be sure to find a small green square with the Town Hall, a former luxurious mansion built in the 16th-17th centuries, which combines several architectural styles ranging from Gothic to Baroque.

Built in the 6th century, the main parish church on the main Kranj square was regularly reconstructed until the 20th century. That affected its appearance. Fragments of defensive walls, old city buildings... It seems like time has stopped here. The only reminder of modernity is the Franze Presern House, where the world-famous Slovenian poet spent the last years of his life.
