Once upon a time during the Ice Age, there was a huge glacier in the heart of northern Slovenia, at the foot of the Julian Alps, in the Triglav National Park. This glacier created the local "sparkling diamonds", the seven blue glacial lakes of the Triglav and numerous rivers and streams formed wonderful waterfalls. For example, the most beautiful waterfall in Slovenia, whose waters are rapidly falling down the rocky ledges of the highest peak of the country.
The famous Slovenian waterfall Pericnik consists of two waterfalls 16 and 52 meters high. It is unlikely to get close to the upper waterfall, but the lower one is definitely worth a visit. Just do not forget to take water-repellent clothes and non-slip shoes, because the lower waterfall's strong stream crashes on the lying stones with such force that the drops fly away for several meters. Then its waters flow into the Triglav Bistrica just a few kilometers from the picturesque village of Mojstrana. By the way, Mojstrana is also a must-visit place: tourists can come here to see the local life and traditions, learn the legends about the waterfall and, of course, drink a cup of hot herbal tea gathered in the mountains.
The special thing about Pericnik Falls is that tourists can stand on both sides of its powerful water stream, admire its majesty amidst the mountainous landscapes of Mount Triglav (2864 meters above sea level), and then go deep into the rocky grotto right behind the waterfall. It may be said to be an absolutely unique opportunity, that attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists from all over the world to the fabulous Slovenian lands.
It is especially pleasant to visit this place in winter: most of the waterfall freezes, forming sharp pieces of ice of all shades of azure and turquoise. Shimmering in the sun and mesmerizing with the barely audible sounds of streams, the waterfall looks like a magic kingdom of cold but beautiful Snow Queen.
