The divinely pleasing Soca River Valley (Soča) is a real masterpiece of nature in the heart of the national park of Slovenia called Triglav. It is like a hidden treasure, unpopular among foreign tourists. Even if you have been to Ljubljana, examined the surrounding area, swam in Lake Bohinj, and fished in Lake Bled, but have not been to this place, you can't fully describe the nature of Slovenia, and its countless treasures at the foot of Mount Triglav, where the beautiful Soca River begins.
Its waters do not warm up above 15°C even in July and August. Clean and cool, they give vital energy to all those who are not afraid to jump from a cliff into the icy depths. It is a favorite holiday destination for Austrians and Italians who come here to avoid the crowds of tourists in such cities as Rome and Venice but to get a high-quality holiday.
The best place to start your trip through the Soca River Valley is Kranjska Gora, where the legendary Triglav National Park begins. Enjoy Lake Jasna and the bronze statue of Zlatorog (golden horn), the symbol of the Slovenian park, eat truffle or venison pizza for breakfast at Kotnik pizzeria, and follow the WWI road past the Vrsic Pass (Vršić), stopping at the wooden Russian chapel, whose facade is decorated with wooden elements such as bird feathers.
Then the road runs through the pass to the picturesque river gorges called Mala (Small) and Velika (Great) Korita. Small but deep bodies of water look like they are filled with very icy water. Not everyone will dare to swim here, but everyone will definitely enjoy walking across the old Napoleon bridges dating from the beginning of the 19th century. It is not for nothing that future architects study these bridges in all universities of the world.
Do not forget to sail on the lake in a real wooden boat taken in the town of Most na Soci, drink a cool lemonade on the square near the Neptune fountain in Kanal ob Soci, and finish your unforgettable valley trip near the border with Italy in the young town of Nova Gorica.
