The Crimean lands were always famous for its historical and cultural monuments of the past, medieval fortresses, and old estates, but the main treasure has always been nature with its wonderful blue and pink lakes, mysterious caves and grottoes, fantastic mountain peaks and sea bays. Among the majestic monuments of nature, there are also small but no less wonderful pearls of the Crimean Peninsula. One of such amazing places is a small cliff in the rural town of Koktebel called "Golden Gate". Today it is considered to be one of the main tourist attractions of Crimea, where one should definitely go in a fishing boat and throw a coin. According to local legend, if a coin hits the rock with a clang, the wish will come true. The thick layer of shiny coins covering the seabed proves that many tourists believe in the ancient legend. However, this corner was not so popular even among residents until recently. A delightful cliff in the shape of an arch was called the "Devil's Gate". It was believed to be an entrance to the underworld, where the famous mythical characters Hercules, Orpheus, and Odysseus ended up in the kingdom of the dead. In fact, the legendary cliff of 8 meters high and about 6 meters wide is nothing more than the remaining stone fragment of the underwater volcano of the famous massif Kara Dag. Its delightful golden color sparkling like a precious metal under the sun is just yellow basalt rock reflecting the bright rays of the hot sun. However, this does not prevent the cliff from remaining a real symbol of the Crimean Peninsula and attracting hundreds of curious tourists every summer, who hope to fulfill the most desirable dreams.
