Vinogradovsky Bridge or Cable-stayed Bridge in Krasnoyarsk is unique at least because it is one of the few structures in Russia designed exclusively for pedestrians and cyclists.
The cable-stayed structure runs from the historic district of Strelka to the largest island of Krasnoyarsk.
Tatyshev Island was hardly in use for a long time. In the old days of the founding of the Krasnoyarsk prison, it was used as a pasture. At that time, it was inhabited by local tribes and was owned by their Prince Tatysh. Probably, the name of the island comes from those times.
You can get to the island by another, automobile and pedestrian, bridge named Oktyabrsky. But it's better to choose Vinogradovsky Bridge, and here's why.
The bridge leads you over the stormy waters of the Yenisei easily and gracefully. You can feel the power of this great Siberian river by stopping for a while in the middle of the bridge.
Krasnoyarsk citizens call Vinogradovsky Bridge "the bridge of lovers" as it is a popular place for dating. Besides, there is the alley of lovers, where the newlyweds plant apple trees, as a symbol of wealth, and rowan trees, as a symbol of marital fidelity.
Although the bridge has no supports and looks unusual and unreliable, you should not worry about safety. The spans of the bridge are suspended on steel twisted cables (stays) thrown over the ends of the pylons. All the elements supporting the roadbed are made of steel.
The structure was built in 6 years as a complement of the Strelka architectural ensemble, which consists of the Museum Center "Peace Square" (previously there was a filial branch of the Central Museum named after Lenin), and the Krasnoyarsk Regional Philharmonic Society with large and small concert halls.
The ensemble also includes the Metropol business center and the notorious Strelka Tower.
