Arad is a real open-air museum where you can study the history of art with the help of its exhibits. Admirers of all architectural styles will not be left indifferent by the city’s heritage. Here, you can wander the streets hour upon hour and admire the masterpieces of the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries: Baroque, classical, neo-Gothic, as well as fantastic eclectic, which perfectly unites elements of antiquity and modernity. Over the past hundred years, Arad has significantly changed. Something was built, other – restored, but the city always had something to surprise its guests.

One of the latest buildings worthy of your attention is the Holy Trinity Cathedral. It is the main Orthodox church of the episcopal diocese, headed by the hierarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church Timotei, Archbishop of Arad.

The archbishop laid the first stone in the autumn of 1991. The construction of the foundation began in 1992 after the land consolidation. It took more than ten years to build the temple, and it was finally completed only in 2006. At the same time, four golden crosses were installed on its domes. The largest is about 7.5 meters long, and the three smaller ones are 3.5 each. The new snow-white cathedral was built by the architect Ioan Haprian in the Byzantine style, and it has a southern aspect. The temple bells were cast in the Austrian city of Innsbruck and brought to Arad in advance. Five bells with a total weight of 6.5 tons were installed in December 2003 as a Christmas present for the believers of the city.

In 2008, on the feast of Saint Nicholas Day, who is revered in Christianity as a wonderworker, the cathedral was finally opened and consecrated by the Patriarch of All Romania, Daniel. A vast number of clergy and thousands of believers attended this significant event. Currently, the interior works are still in progress in the temple.

Even though the cathedral is located in one of the busiest urban areas, it is a perfect place to be in silence, alone with yourself and your thoughts.
