You don’t need a time machine to embark on a fascinating discovery of a medieval town. You don’t as well have to visualize it and dream, looking at the stars in the sky. Just rent a convertible to enjoy the landscapes flying by, and go to the north of Poland to the old town of Malbork. In the largest medieval brick castle in the world, you can immerse yourself in a fairy-tale-like atmosphere, listen to the legends about the brave Teutonic Knights and even sit on the throne of the Grand Master of the Order.

The world-famous Polish Malbork Castle (Marienburg) was founded in 1274. The pre-construction works only, deforestation and the production of tiles and bricks, took several years, not to mention the construction of the defensive walls and the castle itself. The number of the castle inhabitants numbered about three thousand. At the beginning of the 14th century, the principal residence of the Grand Master was transferred to the castle, and Malbork became the capital of the Teutonic Order. Even though during the Battle of Grunwald, the town was taken by King Jagiello, he never succeeded in besieging the impregnable citadel. Only half a century later, the Grand Master passed the castle on mercenaries from Bohemia because of his debt, who sold the ancient fortress to King Casimir IV. So the Kingdom of Poland acquired a real gem of medieval architecture and the kings – one of the most beautiful residences.

Now, the Malbork Castle is considered a gold standard of Brick Gothic and is a World Heritage Site. It is almost 21 hectares in area, occupied by a complex of all kinds of exhibitions and museums. These include displays of amber and old coins, ammunition, and Gothic statues. Each exhibit found a place for itself within the walls of the spacious fortress. Besides, here you can try shooting a real bow or ride a horse, just like a Teutonic Knight.
