Budva is like a toy town, where you can always smell fresh baking and hear the sound of the surf. If you want to enjoy tranquility and peace in the most tourist town of Montenegro and feel its pulse, come here in autumn, when the season is over, and there are almost no tourists.

Having come to a butcher’s to buy a burger, which is prepared in front of you, from the meat you choose, with fresh vegetables, sit on a deserted beach and enjoy the view. To one side, there will be the Sveti Stefan (St. Stephen Island); to the other – the Clock Tower, the roof of the monastery, and the red tiles of the houses of Old Budva, the most picturesque place in the town. Take the leftovers of your lunch with you and feed them to local cats. There are dozens of them on the narrow streets of the old center.

Cats are the mascots of Budva and Montenegro. Several couples of purring felines will observe you from almost any side street in the Old Town.

After passing one of the main gates, forget about trying to follow the map. Take a walk, visit tiny coffee and gift shops located on the first floors of ancient buildings. You will definitely get lost here. And this is the most exciting thing! Then, rather unexpectedly, the passages between the houses will widen, and you will see the sea again.

Walk along the square of the Church of St. Sava and stop at the baluster. Waves will be below you, and in the distance, you will see a sunset of incredible beauty.

The Budva Citadel is worth a visit; it was built in the 9th century. Climb to the top for a 360-degree view of the town. Then, go back and take your time to walk around the library with rare books and a welcoming concert hall. Stay at the sweeping restaurant. It is likely closed due to few tourists, but the wood-beam ceiling mantled with vines creates a stunning resort-like air.

You will undoubtedly return to Old Budva more than once. Walk along the pier and go through the main gate to feed the cats once again, taste a delicious pizza for 1 euro and look at the ancient buildings.
