The Devils' Museum is the most unusual place in Kaunas, although the history of its appearance is quite ordinary. In the 20th century, the Lithuanian artist Antanas Zhmuidzinavičiaus lived in Kaunas. He was a famous art teacher and had the order of the Red Banner of Labor of the USSR.

It was Antanas who started collecting masks and figures of devils. It is still a mystery why he started doing this. Zhmuidzinavičiaus wanted to collect a damn dozens of small figures and masks and then stop. But his friends and acquaintances began to bring him devils from everywhere. So the collection gradually grew. And by 1966 it had 260 figures and masks of the devil in various versions.

At first, the figures were displayed in the house where the artist lived. Later the collection continued to be replenished and an annex was built near the house. Now this place is a museum, which has become the hallmark of Kaunas. By the way, this is the only known museum of devils in the world.

The Devils' Museum was opened in 1966 when the artist died. By Soviet standards, this was something unprecedented. At that time, it was difficult to imagine that someone not only believed in God or the devil but even collected something related to them.

Now the museum's collection has more than three thousand different devils. Many people from different parts of the world, learning about the museum, send masks and figurines depicting the devil. They are made of completely different materials. Some of them show mythical events, others simply depict the most sinister creature. There are even different paintings.

The museum has muted lighting, black-draped walls, and absolute silence, which adds the mysticism and entourage of the exhibits. Some of them make your skin crawling.

All the museum's exhibits are divided by subject. It is easy to distinguish them: you need to understand how the devil seduces a person. Willy-nilly, as you pass three floors, looking at human weaknesses and devilish evil, you begin to think about fundamental things... about good and evil, about something eternal, about the need to live by conscience and be honest with yourself and other people…
