When you get tired of sightseeing in Verona, go to the Giusti Garden. You should not be confused that the garden is located far from the tourist center, on the other board of the Adige River. Giusti Garden is considered one of the most beautiful gardens of the Renaissance Epoque and definitely worthy of your attention.

There, in the shadow of the spreading trees, you can rest from the furious pace of the city, think about the life, while listening to the singing of birds, or dream looking to the city roofs. “The second paradise on Earth” – that is how Giusti Garden was depicted by the British traveler Thomas Coriat, and he definitely was right.

One of the richest and most influential families in Italy, the Giusti one, was the founder of the Giusti Garden. Moving to Verona, the member of the family Agustino Giusti decided to establish his garden, looking like the Florentine gardens of Boboli. He succeeded in it. Moreover, a villa and a garden, created by its project, became very famous and made Giusti popular. Unfortunately, the architect of the project remained unknown. During the Second World War, the garden and villa were damaged: many plants were obliterated, and all the statues were destroyed. Fortunately, now everything is restored.

The garden is divided into two parts - lower and upper. In the lower one, you can walk through the Alley of cypresses, to see the cave of stalactites, to admire the red marble fountain with the fish and turtles. The upper garden is decorated with the statues of ancient gods: Venus, Mercury, and Bacchus, also made of marble. The upper garden has many varieties of plants and meandering paths. The highest point of the upper garden is the stoned belvedere, made in the shape of the mythical creature’s mask. Inside the mask, there is the building for the fire-making. In this case, the mask looks as frightening as it possible.

On the belvedere, there is a viewpoint, where you can see the beautiful landscape of the old city. The Giusti garden was visited by the famous people as Emperor Joseph II, Goethe and Mozart.
