Murano Glass Museum

Venice is not just the Grand Canal and the incredibly beautiful houses on both sides of it. Venice is the remote region of Murano, where the workers produce the world-famous colored glass.

The region Murano seems like the city in the city. There are churches, palaces, museums. But the most interesting monument is the Glass Museum. There you can learn, how many stages the process of Murano glass producing, what the secrets of manufacturing. Also, you can see the unique exhibits of Ancient Egypt. 

This region was chosen not by chance. Earlier, most of the constructions in Venice were made of wood, that is why they were frequently set in fire. That time,  there were a lot of Murano glassblowers. The process of blowing glass was closely related to the fire, and the local authorities recommended to move the factories from the city to the island.

Murano settled down on the island and reached a high position in society. The locals respected them because they had the possibility to carry knives with themselves.

That time, such a high position imposed several restrictions on the craftsmen. In the 14th century, the city authorities did not let them leave Venice. It was made because the glassblowers worked just on the local market. Of course, some of them broke these rules, going to earn money and reach fame in the neighboring cities or even countries.

We should note that Murano masters were very talented. The technologies, which they used to make the glass items, were unique. For example, while working, they used crystal glass and smalt, and even glass, imitating the jewels.
