You may ask: why is the National Automobile Museum located in Turin? What is the logic? The answer is simple – the Italian region Piedmont, which capital is Turin, is the native place of the famous car brands, such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, and Alfa Romeo. And the management of Fiat company is situated in Turin, that is why the National Automobile Museum was built in this city.
It was spontaneously established in Turin, owing to two people, Roberto Biscaretti di Ruffia and his son Carlo. Both of them adored cars and had a large collection of automobiles. They decided to show their passion to other people. Di Ruffia family organized a small museum in their house. Inspired by the interest of the locals and tourists, 7 years later, they decided to establish the official Automobile Museum – they organized the exhibition for such a long time.
Some time later, the size of the house became insufficient for the exposition, and in 1960 it was moved to the enlarged space, projected by an architect Amedeo Albertini.
If you think that all the exhibits of the Turin Museum are the automobiles of Italian brands, then you are wrong. There you can see the automobiles of different companies and producing countries. Among them, you can even find the Soviet “Pobeda” car.
The museum is located on 3 floors. To start the excursion I would like from the last one because it is showing the oldest exhibits of the end of the 19th- the beginning of the 20th centuries.
They are followed by the ancestors of modern automobiles – the cars of the 1930s. Among them are the famous Fiat Mod. Turbina and Citroën DS19.
On the second floor of the museum, you can see the sports automobiles and bolides, taking part in the races – these are famous Ferrari bolides, the sports cars of the Alfa Romeo and Lancia car brands.
Since the opening, the museum became larger and larger, and the visitors were allowed to watch the exhibits and read the plates with descriptions. To 2007, the stage designer François Corfino decided to open one more project. He added the interactivity to the museum: he recreated the process of the car’s assembling. The tourists could come there by the small trailer. Also, there were opened a scientific center, restaurants, library, where the visitors can see the history of the cars’ producers on photos.
