Ponte del Mare is the main city bridge, located in the mouth of the Pescara River, and connecting the northern and southern sides. It is considered to be one of the longest bridges not just of Italy, but Europe. Just the length of the bike path of the bridge is about 440 meters, and the length of the whole pedestrian part of the bridge is 465 meters.

To connect the shores of Pescara, the local authorities had two options: the building of a tunnel and the construction of a bridge. As a result, the architect Walter Pichler, and the director of the Venetian Department of Construction and Architecture, who is also one of the main Italian bridge specialists, Enzo Siviero created the project of a bridge, suitable for everyone. The technical and architectural questions were discussed by the popular Italian-German company.

The locals waited for its establishment for a long time. The bridge was made in Pescara recently – in 2009, with the help of the City Council and sponsorship. By the way, the citizens of Pescara named this bridge “Ponte del Mare”. Now Ponte del Mare is one of the main symbols of the city. It is placed between the rotunda of the Madonna in the north of Pescara and the southern embankment of Pope John XXIII.

The bridge has a height of 14.5 meters above sea level and a rather interesting curvilinear trajectory. The construction of the bridge looks innovative, light and airy. At the same time, it is multifunctional: two paths of Ponte del Mare are destined for bicycle use, and there is a pedestrian walkway. At the end of the paths, they gather on one road, 5-meters long. The locals walk along it with pleasure, the cyclists hurry on business, the tourists stop to admire the ships. The bridge is convenient for walking because of the incline of the pedestrian area in no more than 8%.

At night, the construction of the bridge is illuminated, creating the impression that Pescara is not a small Italian town, but a real megalopolis.
