This powerful castle is placed on an island Megaride on the board of the Tyrrhenian Sea. It was built in 1139 on the ruins of a Christian church. Egg Castle is placed in a picturesque place. From its viewpoint, you can see the city, Vesuvius and the sea. Inside the castle is a historical museum, which presents pictures of Titian and Vaccaro and household items of the 14th-16th centuries. Nowadays Egg Castle is also a place for celebrations.
The name Egg Castle was given to the castle by the locals. It has two explanations. Firstly, its shape reminds an egg. Secondly, according to the legend, Virgil hid an egg inside the castle. While it is there, Egg Castle is in safety.
