Even the name Limone sul Garda makes tourists want to go on an exciting journey to this fabulous Italian town on the shores of the picturesque Lake Garda. Absolutely everything here is saturated with the aromas of citrus trees, although some historians claim that the sonorous name did not come from lemons but from the Latin word "limes", which means "border". Limone sul Garda was once a border town between Austria and Italy, but modern travelers still want to believe in the first, more romantic story. And how can one not believe it if the main attraction of the city is the charming flowering lemon greenhouse?
The first citrus seedlings were planted in the town in the 17th century when it was possible to get here only from the side of the lake or along winding mountain paths. Almost a hundred years later, the lemon greenhouse was created in honor of the first trees in the town. Today, there are dozens of different plant species, but the symbols of this place are still lemon trees.
The main tourist attraction of the greenhouse itself is an observation deck, which offers a stunning view of the town and the wonderful Lake Garda, surrounded by Alpine peaks. The lemon greenhouse has been chosen not only by connoisseurs of flora but also by fans of extreme sports. It is the perfect place to see bright parachutes of kitesurfers hovering over the azure waters and the flower-carpeted mountain slopes.
The love of juicy citrus fruits can also be noticed on the streets of the colorful town. All signs and names are accompanied by an image of a branch with bright yellow ripe lemons and green leaves. Such minor details cheer up tourists and attract attention to other landmarks, like the unique lemon museum, ancient lemon farms, and, of course, hospitable restaurants serving the best Italian lemon liqueur called Limoncello and the famous Soffioni cakes.
