Waterford is one of the most ancient cities in Ireland. Its property is its history! The locals take pride in it and cherish it a lot. That is why the city has many monuments of history and historic museums.
And how many treasures could appear for such a long history! An immense number. Some of them were found recently, at the end of the 20th century, when the archeologists made excavations.
The scientists were happy about finding the treasures and decided to build a museum. And not the one, but 3 of them. Waterford Museum of Treasures has 3 branches: the museum of Vikings’ treasures in the barn of Reginald’s Tower, the museum of Middle-Aged treasures and the Georgian museum in Episcopal Palace.
The main part of the collection was sent there, in the museum of Middle-Aged treasures. The expositions include not just the exhibits, related to the Middle Ages, but also many others.
The collection of the museum impresses a lot! By its size and its variety. Visiting different rooms, seeing all the items, tenderly cleaned from the century-old dust, people immerge in the past, going further and further. There you can learn, how the wine was made and kept, what the ordinary people were wearing, and see the different coins, needles, swords, and goblets – any kinds of things. Among all the really precious items , from the historical point of view, the museum has the only thing of Middle-Aged clothes in Europe and the largest exhibition of charters in Ireland, written in the Middle Ages.
The simple excursions and guide’s explanations are not the feature of the museum. The administration presents a lot of interesting events for tourists, such as theater performances, music, costumes excursions. There you can also buy an original gift, a handmade souvenir.
Waterford Museum of Treasures will be interesting not just for the amateurs of antiquities, but also for those who like modern and high technologies, because everyone should know the history, and it is always interesting to learn the history of a new place.
