The Church in Kopavogyur (Kópavogskirkja) was built in 1958-1962. The day of its foundation is considered to be August 16, 1958. Many come here to be inspired by the beautiful view, to reconnect with God, and to enjoy the peace and spiritual unity. Characteristic arches make the church special, and at the same time give it an elegant and soft appearance. Few churches in Iceland can boast of such windows as in Kópavogskirkja. Stained glasses adorn the windows of the church and emphasize the sophistication of the building. They were designed by the sculptor Gerður Helgadóttir to remind us of the sanctity of the world and its artistic refinement. It was decided to entrust Gerður with the design of windows in the spring of 1962. Thanks to the confident support of the local authorities and residents of the city, she was able to install them in the building before the consecration. The sculptor lived in Kópavogur: there is an Art Museum dedicated to her memory. On the twentieth anniversary of the church, in 1982, Mrs. Hulda Jakobsdóttir, the former mayor of Kópavogur, noted that the windows not only had a decisive influence on the appearance of the church, they also became a sign of its integrity and unity.

In the church, there is a painting by Barbara Árnason, that shows Jesus blessing children. The artist also executed four images, made of brass, on the pulpit of the church: these are icons of the four Gospels.

The church's bells were installed during its consecration in 1963. There are two of them: the big one weighs 330 kg and has a tone B, the small one, weighing 205 kg, has a tone D. The Bells were cast in Germany. They were operated manually until 1989 when they were connected to an electric controller.

The altar was installed in the church in 1990 and is based on a story from the Gospel of John about how Christ washed the feet of his disciples. It was created by sculptor Steinunn Thorarinsdottir, which received first place in the qualifying competition for the creation of the altar for the Church in Kópavogur.
