The Museum of Oil is a national museum of Hungary, established in 1969. It is dedicated to the Hungarian hydrocarbon industry history, and, since the year 1993, the history of water production. You can learn all the technical information about the mining, processing and transporting at the large permanent exhibition on the open air in Zalaegerszeg. Visitors can find the monuments of famous technicians in the sculptural parc and the temporary exhibitions of technological processes inside the building. Since 1974 museum staff has published their research papers.

The permanent exhibitions show flowcharts, photos, diagrams, models, tables of terrains and some of the typical objects and equipment. One of them illustrates the process of exploring, drilling, production, and transformation of hydrocarbons before their use.

Outside the building, the large machines are installed. Their function is to explore the hydrocarbons, drill the oil wells and to transform it. Visitors can also see all the necessary equipment for measuring, pumps, separators, gas stations, and engines, as well as the drilling machines and the equipment for water production.

The exhibition’s place is one of the beautiful parks in Zalaegerszeg. Nature is mixed with big machines, which makes an unusual view. There are places with benches for the rest. All the exhibitions contain only the natural materials and solutions, while all the toxic wastes are sorted and transported to the incinerator plant.
