It is the hallmark and symbol of Budapest, which runs as the first association with the Hungarian capital and is depicted on almost every tourist souvenir. It is the most majestic and tallest building in the city, along with St. Stephen's Basilica. The permanent seat of the state parliament and the most visited tourist attraction in Budapest. It is the longest building in Hungary and one of the largest government residences in Europe. As you may have noticed, this legendary place can be described endlessly. So let's find out the most important and interesting facts.

After the unification of the Buda and Pest districts, it was decided to build a new Hungarian government building on the eastern bank of the Danube between the Margaret and Szechenyi bridges. Construction, led by the famous Hungarian architect Imre Steindl, lasted almost two decades, from 1885 to 1904.

Even photos and pictures of the Parliament of Budapest are unforgettable. They surprise you with the incredible appearance of the building. Therefore, you can imagine the impression it makes on those who have seen it live. Considering the peculiarities of the location, Steindl tried to make it look as special, efficient, and majestic as possible from different angles.

The Parliament of Budapest is designed in the neo-Gothic style. You may notice its resemblance to the Palace of Westminster in England. It's hard to say whether this is a coincidence or deliberate imitation. In any case, the Hungarian Parliament Building is every bit as good as that of the British Houses of Parliament.

The building premises are decorated in a luxurious medieval style: there are 13 entrances, 29 staircases, more than 690 rooms, offices, and halls, as well as 10 courtyards. The interior includes stained-glass windows, mosaic panels, and gilded elements.

There are other architectural landmarks of that time next to the building of the Hungarian Parliament. For example, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ethnographic Museum.
